Q. I have been told that I must have a qualified first aider even though I only have 6 staff working in the office. I thought that I only needed an appointed person. Who is right ?
A. If you have carried out a risk assessment and have decided that your environment is low risk, you are correct in thinking that you only need an appointed person. You should also have someone who can cover whenever the appointed person is out of the office.
Q. I have been told that I can't put a plaster on a child's cut finger and that I must seek the permission of a parent. Surely this can't be right can it ?
A. There is nothing to say that you can't put a plaster on a child's cut finger. Some children have an allergy to normal plasters. If you know the child has an allergy to normal plasters, you can use a Hypo-allergenic type of plaster. It is important to cover the cut to prevent infection.
